Switzerland's lakes — Geneva, Zurich, Lucerne, Thun, Constance and more — are a huge part of summer life, but the official public bathing areas, known as Badis or lidos, often restrict dogs during the main swimming season, typically for hygiene and crowding reasons around a busy, fenced swimming zone.
The workaround is usually simple: most lakeside towns have an unofficial or clearly marked dog-friendly stretch of shoreline a short walk from the main Badi, where dogs can swim freely without competing for space with sunbathers.
Outside the peak summer season, restrictions at official Badis often relax significantly or disappear altogether, since the crowding concern that drives the rule mostly applies to the busiest months.
