SAS, Scandinavia's largest carrier, sets out a clear two-tier pet policy on its own website. In the cabin, only small cats and dogs over 8 weeks old are accepted, in a soft-sided, fully closed, ventilated carrier no larger than 40 x 25 x 23cm and weighing no more than 8kg including the pet itself — one carrier per traveller, with up to two pets of the same species sharing it.
A larger dog travels in the hold instead, up to 50kg including the pet, in an IATA-compliant, escape-proof container sized for the specific aircraft. Two adult pets up to 14kg each can share a hold container, or up to three littermates under six months old, except on flights to the US. Snub-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds such as bulldogs and pugs are barred from the hold outright for health reasons.
One route-specific rule is easy to miss: SAS does not accept pets in the cabin or as checked baggage on flights to or from the United Kingdom at all — they must travel as registered cargo instead, with only certified service animals allowed in the cabin on that route. Fees are charged per container, per direction, and scale by route, roughly €55–90 domestically up to €149–725 to China, so it's worth checking SAS's own fee table for your specific route before booking.
