As with vacation rental platforms everywhere, whether an Austrian listing welcomes a dog is the individual host's decision, usually stated in the listing's house rules. Hosts with a standalone chalet, farmhouse or self-catering cottage often welcome pets more readily than hosts in a shared apartment building, where the building's own rules can rule pets out regardless of what the individual host would prefer.
If a listing is silent on pets, message the host directly before booking rather than assuming it's fine. A host can decline or cancel a booking if an undisclosed pet shows up, and standard cancellation terms rarely favour the guest in that situation.
Worth asking about specifically: any pet cleaning fee, whether there's a securely fenced outdoor space (genuinely useful if the property is near grazing livestock, covered in the Activities section), and how close the property actually sits to a trail, lake or forest edge versus how it's marketed in the listing photos.
